A fire in a west London apartment block has engaged the efforts of approximately 125 firefighters and twenty fire engines. The incident, reported on Elm Road in Wembley this afternoon, resulted in part of the building's roof catching fire. Although the cause of the blaze is currently unknown, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) has announced that it was brought under control around 10 p.m.
As a precautionary measure, the affected block and adjacent buildings were evacuated, with all residents accounted for following the evacuation. The LFB is advising nearby residents to keep their doors and windows shut to safeguard against potential smoke in the vicinity.
To address the fire, two of the Brigade's 32-meter turntable ladders are being employed as water towers. Control Officers have received six calls reporting the fire, with the initial call received at 4:42 p.m. Firefighters from Wembley, Park Royal, Northolt, and surrounding fire stations are actively working at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time. Authorities are urging people to avoid the area as emergency crews respond to the incident.
