ELM Group celebrates savings for residents at Surrey estate

Property management company ELM Group has saved residents at one of its Surrey properties a projected 77 per cent a year, protecting its private swimming pool against rising running costs.

The swimming pool, much-loved by residents at the Esher-based retirement estate, has seen running costs rise significantly during the cost-of-living crisis and associated high energy prices.

In a partnership with a local swim school GoggleSquad, the company’s private gated estate is opening its doors to facilitate the offering of swimming lessons to local children in the peaceful confines of its modern indoor swimming pool.

The arrangement is set to benefit all parties involved with the estate being able to reduce its running costs and maintain the swimming pool facilities, whilst also addressing the wider need for local swimming lesson availability as public pools continue to close across the country.

William Duncan, Head of Estates at ELM Group, said:

“Swimmers across the UK have lost access to many public pools in recent years due to spiralling energy costs. Swimming pools at our estates are facing the same concern so I was delighted to find that renting out the pool for two afternoons a week would pay for the energy the pool uses, with the bonus of local children being able to benefit from this as well, allowing them to access lessons in this lovely, tranquil pool.”

The not-for-profit organisation saved leaseholders across its estates over £70,000 last year through various value money initiatives which see the team working proactively to find ways to save residents money on utilities and maintenance projects.

ELM Group manages and owns retirement communities across the South of England and has become one of the UK’s leading retirement leasehold management companies. The company originated in 1971 as Retirement Lease Housing Association (RLHA) a charitable organisation founded by a group of volunteers with a shared vision - to pioneer the development of sheltered housing for sale to people of retirement age.
