A serious fire broke out at a luxury residential development in central London on Sunday evening, prompting a major emergency response.
Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were dispatched to Goodman's Fields on Leman Street, Aldgate, following reports of a fire shortly before 5.45pm. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that two apartments on the sixth and seventh floors of the modern residential complex were alight.
Footage shared on social media showed flames engulfing part of an upper-storey flat, with dense smoke rising to adjacent floors.
Firefighters evacuated 11 residents from the building, and while the incident was described as severe, there have been no reports of injuries at this time.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received the first of 15 emergency calls at 5.43pm. Crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Bethnal Green, and nearby stations were swiftly mobilised.
Goodman's Fields is a prominent seven-acre mixed-use development in Aldgate East, marketed as an award-winning hub for dining, wellness, and leisure. Formerly the site of a Royal Mail sorting office, the area has been transformed into a vibrant urban quarter on the fringe of the City of London. Residential properties in the development frequently sell for over £1 million.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
