APM (Association for Project Management) has already been heavily involved in driving positive change following the Grenfell tragedy. APM’s Head of Qualifications and Standards, Gill Hancock, chaired the group that introduced new competences for project managers in the built environment, as required by the Building Safety Act.
Gill Hancock said:
“The long-awaited final report into the Grenfell Tower tragedy could be one of the most significant documents to be published this century with regards to building safety and how everyone who works within the built environment should act and behave.
“The publication of the report must be treated sensitively and we must embrace the values of patience and due diligence when carefully considering the contents and findings of the report.
“However, we are expecting the report to place significant focus on competence, including potential recommendations for further professions alongside project management to face more stringent regulations.
“We are also expecting recommendations relating to how manufacturers of products and materials, and the construction firms which use them, have been siloed from one another, and the potential damaging effects this has caused across the built environment for many years.”
