Hyperoptic cuts price of UK’s fastest social broadband tariff

Hyperoptic is making fast, reliable broadband available to more households by permanently reducing the price of its 150Mb full fibre social broadband tariff from £25 to £20 per month.

Hyperoptic’s Fair Fibre 150Mb plan is already the fastest broadband available on a social tariff – more than twice the speed of any plan the major providers offer.

Hyperoptic also offers its Fair Fibre 50Mb plan for £15 per month. The company’s Fair Fibre social broadband tariffs are available to any eligible new or existing customers to move to at any time, without penalty, and don’t need a credit check – all plans are 30 day rolling agreements.

...

The plans also have the widest range of eligibility, including: Universal Credit, Income Support, Pension Credit, Income-related Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), Housing Benefit, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit, Care Leavers support, and Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

Like all Hyperoptic plans, there is no mid-contract price increase.

Hyperoptic CEO Dana Tobak said: “Just because a family is eligible for a social tariff, doesn’t mean they should be limited to slow speeds. We know from our conversations with Which?, and seeing their research, that slow speeds and challenges exiting current contracts are key reasons customers who are aware of social tariffs are not signing up. We already offer the fastest tariff, and now we’re reducing the price of that to ensure it’s available to more households, giving them the speed they need.”

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said: “Which? recently called for all telecoms providers to offer a range of social tariffs to suit every eligible household's needs during the cost of living crisis.

We're pleased to see Hyperoptic is lowering the price of its 150mbps social tariff from £25 to £20 a month to make it more affordable for eligible consumers. For social tariff customers, it now offers 50mpbs for £15, and 150mbps at £20 for those with more demands on their connection.

We strongly encourage those providers that are still not doing so to follow suit and ensure they are offering a range of affordable broadband options and properly advertising their social tariff offerings to those eligible.”

Hyperoptic has more than 250,000 active customers, and its network covers more than one million homes. Its full fibre network is available in 64 places across the UK. Hyperoptic was the first to make gigabit broadband available in the UK when it connected Prices Court in Wandsworth, London in October 2011, when the average UK broadband speed at the time was just 6.8Mbit/s.

As well as offering hyperfast speeds on social tariffs, Hyperoptic also offers a range of competitively-priced, flexible packages up to 1Gb.
