Stepping Up for Mental Health

An energetic team from property and construction specialist Watts Group have together walked more than 750 miles for charity.

That’s equivalent to the distance of a UK tour taking in all seven of the Group’s offices in Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, London, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester. Averaging more than 150,000 steps per person, the 26 participants have raised £1300 for Watts Group’s nominated charity for this year, Mental Health UK.

The challenge was organised in the lead-up to World Mental Health Day, with this year's theme focused on tackling poor mental health and burnout in the workplace.

By encouraging the team to participate in a fun exercise challenge, the aim was to support mental wellness, reduce burnout, and promote physical activity for the benefit of both mind and body within Watts own workplace. Under the banner “WOW – Watts Office Walk” the event ran through September.

Standout performer was Gareth Scott, a Senior Building Surveyor from the Group’s Bristol team, who racked up an epic 616,294 steps.

Mental Health UK brings together four UK charities, each with more than 50 years of experience in supporting people with their mental health.

The combined charity delivers national and local services that enable and empower people to understand and manage their mental health.

Mental Health UK provides support and services for some of the most pressing societal challenges that threaten mental wellbeing, including issues such as money problems, navigating support systems, understanding mental health, combating loneliness and isolation and building resilience in young people.
