The Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners celebrated their 5th Anniversary with a dinner in the Riverside Room at the Institute of Electrical Engineers in London. The highlight of the evening was an entertaining after-dinner speech by former Tory Government Minister, Anne Widdecombe. A highly accomplished politician, Anne Widdecombe explained that she had pursued a television career partly to draw attention to issues which would otherwise have been lost and forgotten in Parliament. With some serious and many light hearted comments and anecdotes, Anne also explained how she came to be on Strictly Come Dancing and why she will never be seen on Big Brother. Anne graciously took questions from guests and toasted to the success of ALEP.
ALEP was founded as a not-for-profit association that brings together solicitors, surveyors, enfranchisement intermediaries and managing agents working in the leasehold sector. ALEP aims to offer a badge of assurance for its members so that flat owners and freeholders can be confident they are employing professionals with a suitable level of experience in handling potentially complex transactions.
