Ombudsman Services, which offers dispute resolution within the property sector, has resolved its one millionth case.
Ombudsman Services runs national, private sector ombudsman schemes, handling complaints for more than 8,000 companies in the energy, communications, property and copyright sectors as well as organisations in the trader, home removal and asset-based finance sectors.
Consumer complaints to the firm are set to double from 19,000 in 2012 to 34,000 by the end of the current financial year.
The service focuses on encouraging early agreed resolution wherever possible and does not charge a fee, so it is able to offer access to redress for consumers to resolve their complaints without proceeding to the civil courts.
Chief Ombudsman, Lewis Shand Smith said: “With the average wage trailing significantly behind inflation and the cost of living rising, alternative dispute resolution is becoming increasingly popular among consumers looking for a definitive answer when things go wrong.”
In 2013, Ombudsman Services won the contract to provide dispute resolution for reallymoving.com and the Which? Trusted Traders scheme. The company also increased its staff numbers and introduced a new case management system.
