New tenants at east village, the former Athletes’ Village used for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, are to benefit from hyperfast broadband.
Private rental residents within the new neighbourhood in London E20 will have access to fibre broadband with top speeds of 1,000Mbps, over 56 times faster than the UK average of 17.8Mbps (according to Ofcom).
East Village welcomed its first residents at the end of 2013. As part of a number of amenities that form their service package, the village’s private rental residents will receive free 20Mbps fibre broadband, with the option to pay to upgrade to even faster internet. The package also includes a phone service with free local and national calls during evenings and weekends.
The broadband service, provided by Hyperoptic, is delivered directly into the homes using unimpeded fibre infrastructure - rather than relying on existing infrastructure and copper cables along parts of the line, which can lead to slower, less reliable connection. This also ensures the properties have future-proofed connectivity that will stand the test of time and the next wave of technology developments.
The installation of Hyperoptic’s fibre broadband is part of a larger, innovative IT and resident technology solution within East Village, designed by Fifosys for Get Living London, which manages the private rental properties.
