News on the Block is a trading name of Premier Property Media Ltd.
It has been an action packed month. We have had Resi ‘07 down at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales, which was the first major conference for the residential sector. Thank goodness that at long last it appears the importance of block management is starting to move up the agenda. Mainly because of the potential for adverse situations to arise if it is not done properly.
Chainbow has played host to the Department of Communities and Local Government for a day to show them what block management entails and to highlight how most of the legislation is not impacting where it should. For an example, they were not aware of the prevalence of the use resident management companies by developers to pass the running of the estates across. The result being that if an action goes to LVT the resident is effectively suing all other residents! We have a perfect example of this at the present involving a previous agent on a block we are now managing. What the end result will, who knows, but I will keep plugging away to try and get common sense into the system!
We have also hit the headlines with the Evening Standard on the topic of insurance commissions and transparency. This is an area where the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) pledged to investigate this issue but have done nothing to date. So the Chainbow Crusaders will keep plugging away on this as well.
Of course not everything is smooth running. As we grow and our quality service is recognised in a wider arena we have the challenge of maintaining effective communication, trying to please all the people all the time and having to make sure our managers are given support and attention to assist with the special homeowners who confuse service as an excuse to shout at someone! Yes even we get it – but not very often, thank goodness.
So, as you can see, it was a quiet month – lucky we love what we do.
Until next time then!
