* A PANEL OF JUDGES WILL CHOOSE 12 CONSENSUS BUSINESS GROUP ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE WINNERS THROUGHOUT 2008
Vincent Tchenguiz, Chairman of Consensus Business Group is pleased to announce that: “As one of the most substantial managers of residential properties and owners of residential freeholds in the UK, and as one of the largest private investors in environmentally friendly projects and technologies, I am delighted to join with News on the Block to support the Consensus Environmental Challenge.”
The Environmental Challenge is divided into two categories:
• The Consensus Inspirational Environmental Award
• The Consensus Entrepreneurial Environmental Award
The built environment is responsible for a vast proportion of the UK’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the lifecycle of a property. We are seeking ways to make residential properties more environmentally friendly in all areas from construction and maintenance to servicing (heating, lighting, etc) and recycling. We invite suggestions in any and all residential property related fields including: design and construction; retrofitting; landscaping; alternative energy; services (lighting, sewage, etc.); insulation; recycling; and behavioural change – to name but a few.
We invite applicants for the two award categories to submit their entries: The Inspirational Award is for ideas that can be simply introduced or applied, at little or no cost, to reduce the energy consumption or carbon footprint of individual residential blocks. The Entrepreneurial Award is for concepts, applications or technologies that require investment to develop and implement.
How to enter
Applicants should submit a synopsis of their idea or concept in no more than 500 words. For The inspirational Award this will be the only hurdle to cross. For The Entrepreneurial Award, short-listed entrants will be expected to provide fuller details and figures to progress their entry. Entries should be sent to The Editor of News on the Block by email to challenge@newsontheblock.com or by post at: One Great Cumberland Place, London W1H 7AL. For more information call Ben Lane at 0207 616 5282.
The entries will be considered by a panel of judges selected from Consensus and its subsidiaries and from News on the Block’s management and editorial team.
The process
Starting in March 2008, each edition of News on the Block for the year will see one entrant in each category have their application reported. The Inspirational Award will see six winners, as reported in the magazine, each of whom will receive a cash prize.
The Entrepreneurial Award will see six entrants proceed to the next stage. They will be given the opportunity to present their concept, backed by a full business plan and/or development plans to the Consensus Business Group. At the discretion of Consensus, successful presentations will result in investment or assistance in commercialisation of the product or concept. For further guidance and information please call Ben Lane at 0207 616 5282.
Terms & Conditions apply please see www.newsontheblock.com for further details. These awards are open to all readers of News on the Block. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into. Good luck!
Background
Consensus Business Group was established by Vincent Tchenguiz in 2001. It is involved in a broad range of activities, including structured finance; the acquisition, management and development of commercial and residential real estate; and has a substantial investment portfolio focused on new technologies and technology start-ups.
Consensus has significant shareholdings in property and property-related companies and is now one of the UK’s largest private property companies with a £4 billion portfolio of commercial property, more than 300,000 residential freeholds and a further 300,000 residential units under management.
A key area of growth for Consensus is its on-going investment program in environmental technologies and companies with $800m already committed. Coupled with a substantial business development network, it provides Consensus with an unparalleled level of access to new technologies, new industry models and economic acceleration resources.
Consensus Residential Estates (“CRE”) brings together all of the Group’s residential property interests and fosters its relationships with all of the major UK house builders, encompassing all aspects of the residential property value chain, including: joint venturing in regeneration; social housing; student housing; key worker housing; ground rents and freeholds; off-plan funds; property management; estate agency; fractional ownership; mortgages; conveyancing; property funds; corporate solutions; environmental solutions; and home technologies. CRE enhances value through exploiting the synergies between these activities.
These operations enable the Consensus Environmental Real Estate Team (“CERET”) to focus on acquiring and managing asset backed infrastructure in the renewable energy space in various markets. Although a global perspective, current target markets include nations within Europe, the Middle East, North America, Southern Africa and Asia-Pacific. Consensus manages UK residential properties under the Peverel, Pemberton, Solitaire, CEM and Stonedale brands.
