Hurford Salvi Carr’s expert lettings division is pleased to offer a stunning New York loft style apartment - the first-ever commercial warehouse to be converted into residential apartments in the UK.
Converted in the late 1970s, Charterhouse Square in Clerkenwell kicked off the trend for open-plan loft apartments that swept London and New York in the 1980s. Favoured by artists for their high ceilings and studio-like room sizes, loft apartments have retained their appeal in today’s market as the average square footage decreases. Unlike any other loft conversion of its kind in the area, the apartment that is now available to rent boasts a lift that opens directly into the living area adding to its ‘New York’ appeal.
Originally a hat factory, Charterhouse Square is now a Grade II listed building in the heart of the Clerkenwell conservation area. The conversion of Charterhouse Square was one of the first projects undertaken by Piers Gough’s architectural practice CZWG after it was founded in 1975, and set the precedent for much of his residential work to date.
Hurford Salvi Carr has been instructed to let the 1,100 sq ft one bedroom apartment in Charterhouse Square complete with original parquet flooring, warehouse windows and high ceilings. The apartment has been modernised to include a state-of-the-art walk-in dressing room and large ‘spa’ style bathroom.
Kari Trajer, associate director at Hurford Salvi Carr’s Clerkenwell Office comments: “Properties such as Charterhouse Square rarely appear on the rental market, and as a result we find such properties are popular and attract considerable interest. The apartment’s size, design and character are of a quality associated with Clerkenwell warehouse living at its finest, and we expect high demand from a wide demographic looking to rent an exceptional residential property.”
Charterhouse Square is a tree-lined square that retains an exclusive cache and boasts an eclectic mix of art deco and Georgian façades. It is located just a short walk from the amenities of Clerkenwell, Shoreditch, the City and Barbican, and nearby transport facilities include Farringdon and Barbican tubes. The apartment would suit a wide range of tenants: lawyers in Bloomsbury, media professionals in Soho or Convent Garden, or financial executives in The City.
